Welcome to the OASIS? Found out last week my new phone was one of the Google Daydream View VR compatible phones so I got a new toy. #readyplayerone #motoz2force #daydreamview

Observations after using the Daydream View for one evening.

I have to use my glasses.
I thought I would be able to use it without glasses since I don't need glasses for my cheaper 3D viewer.
If I use my progressive lens glasses, I have to wear the Daydream View at a weird angle which limits my field of view.
Using my "computer glasses" works better but my prescription has changed enough that I don't get a perfect focus. Probably time to get new glasses.

There is a "screen door" effect while watching videos. To be expected as you are looking at a phone screen very close up, after all.
This is acceptable for watching videos on Plex or Youtube but not for serious movie watching.

For some reason what is supposed to be in front of me drifts to one side after awhile.
I kept having to recenter, which is easy with the controller but I felt like I was having to do it too much.

Some apps would not open at all.

The Google Arts and Culture app took forever to load images, as did Streetview.
This shouldn't happen with my super high speed internet at home. I'm blaming the Google server end for that.

I got into an uncontrollable spin in the Domino game while trying to navigate the "room". I got motion sick and had to rip the viewer off my face and close the app.

The game "Gravity Pull" was better than I expected and the closest to "OASIS" immersion of anything I looked at during my first session with it.
You actually walk in place to play this "Portal"-like game to move around the environment. I need to play in a more open area than in my Geek room as I was afraid I would run into something.

I was disappointed that almost everything I tried to cast to the Chromecast told me that audio would not cast.
That function is so you can share the experience with others. Come on Google - make your stuff work with your other stuff!
I'll try pairing the phone to my soundbar with Bluetooth to see if that provides a solution for sharing.

I couldn't get Google Streetview to give me actual street views. It just wanted to show me major tourist destinations. Putting my address into search told me "no panorama available for this location" although it is supposed to give you the same street view available in the normal app.

I put the phone into my cheap 3D viewer (the one where I don't need my glasses) and found I could still use the Daydream View remote. Sweet! The only problem using that viewer is spherical distortion from the assumption that the lenses you are using are the Daydream ones.
There might be settings I can adjust for that.

So after one evening I give it 7/10.
I'm not going to give up on it. I like the portability and using the remote.
I will probably use it daily, but it ain't The OASIS.
